Checklist for New Student Researcher
Before entering the laboratory, new students please make sure you have these completed:
- Laboratory Centrifuge Safety Training (from the Student Portal)
- Autoclave Training
- SALT Training
- Any other training required on the student's training list
- Key Form
- Volunteer Form (if applicable)
- BIOL 299L/499L/599L Form (if applicable)
- Make an appointment (through email) with Dr. Ramirez to discuss the project/work
** After the students have completed the training, please print out the certificate and bring it to lab. These documents need to go to "Chemical Hygiene Plan" binder in lab.
** Fill out the "Environmental Health & Safety: Safety Orientation Checklist Form" and "Student Training Form" in the "Chemical Hygiene Plan" binder.

Things New Students Need to Know
- Slack app is the main form of communication among all members in the lab. Make sure to have the notification ON at all time and check it multiple times a day.
- Chemical MSDS, Volunteer Form, Lab Notebook Guidelines, Lab Meeting, and Protocol are located in the Lab Documents Folder in Dropbox that all students in the lab should have access to (If you do not have access, please contact Dr. Ramirez).
- Ice room is in DBH 161A (passcode is needed).
- Stock room is in DBH 377
- Everyone should have their own lab notebook to record the date of the experiment, the protocols, and the results.
- Laboratory notebook(s) have to stay in lab. It is the property of the school. Students are not allowed to bring it home.
- Please dress appropriately for a laboratory setting. Students will have their own drawer to store lab coat, goggle, and lab notebook.
** The file below has general information that ALL students need to keep in mind when entering the laboratory environment. Please print it out and paste it on the first page of your lab notebook.
